Sporting Atleti Design Project
Sporting Atleti Chicago reached out about creating a badge and their kits. They expressed that they would like to use a diamond shape to break the mold of how many teams are choosing circle badges. Their color palette was a very straight forward black and white. Atleti Sportswear is a custom uniform design company so it was easy to communicate ideas and collaborate on a shared interest in football kits. They lined up and a sponsorship on the front of their shirt from neighborhood Italian restaurant, etta. We would go through the brand design process, pattern design, apparel design and kit design.
Design Process
Sporting Atleti communicated that they would like a specific typeface, the year and to have a diamond logo. Our first drafts were created to get an idea on the construction of the diamond and the hierarchy of the design.
The second round of edits were split into two different primary concepts. One concept centered around the font taking center stage in the diamond where the other concept was about centering the soccer ball within the diamond including that the team is located in West Town.
During this round we started creating alternative brandmarks using some of the themes that SA liked. This would go on to be on the team’s socks.
After looking through rounds of edits, Sporting Atleti decided on this for their primary logo.
Kit Designs
We started with some basic vectors for the team and moved towards pattern making and more expansive designs to make the black and white uniforms have more contrast.
