Ames Iowa High School Soccer Design
Ames High School in central Iowa contacted Collision to create a new logo and look at new options for soccer kit and t-shirt designs. The Little Cyclones have a tornado icon they use for sports uniforms and a wordmark logo utilizing the letter “A.”
Design Process
Looking at what assets were already within the Ames High brand we wanted to show some variety to the staff ranging from a safe design to something pushing boundaries to something more original but contrasting the original brand elements. The first set of logos were the safe route. Take the elements that Ames currently uses but give it more of a soccer-specific feel. The color palette felt a lot like Harley Davidson meets modern sports.
For the next concept, I wanted to contrast the original with something entirely new. My thought was to create a soccer specific crest showing “A” from a distance but “AH” up close. Below are 3-color and 1-color versions of this logo primarily design for t-shirts, apparel or other pieces that they didn’t want to look like another application of the athletic department’s general designs.
The final concept went a very different direction looking more towards a wordmark or monogram. The thought here was simplicity something to contrast the logo of the other sports at Ames High School.
After looking through 4 rounds of edits, the coaching staff decided to go with something more similar to the rest of Ames High’s athletics and chose the following logo.
Kit Designs
Due to the nature of Nike’s templates, we’ve had to make these designs very simple.
